The League’s representative XI captained by Cookley’s Jamen Rudd, played Herefordshire 2nd XI at Bewdley on Sunday 29th June and won an absorbing and exciting contest by just 6 runs.
Batting first, Worcestershire made 239-5 in their allocation of 45 overs with Paul Thomas of Cookley contributing 86, Charlie Eastoe of Bewdley making 55 and Dan Platt, a late call-up from hosts Bewdley, 35.
The Herefordshire innings was meandering at 108-7 with almost 30 overs spent when Joe Critchard of Brockhampton and Taylor Pugh of Pershore came together. They contributed 109 runs at more than a run a ball and hoisted their side to the brink of an exciting victory. However, Critchard fell for 84 to a third catch by Dan Platt off the bowling of our League’s best bowler, Rhys Williams who took 3-53. When Pugh also departed for 54 shortly afterwards, the innings ended at 233-8.
